Since a couple of years I am addicted to analog film.
Loading the precious film stock in complete darkness, sensing the excitement by every single crew member on set, hearing the sound of 24 fames per second being transported inside these magic machines and seeing the flickering image in my viewfinder – that makes my heart skip a beat.
It is the essence of film-making for me. Don’t get me wrong – it doesn’t make the films necessarily better, but it is a filmmakers‘ origin and gives a special vibrance during the production that results in some perceptible extra spice on the screen – beyond film grain only.
Meanwhile I own a couple of 16mm cameras (ok, and a couple of Super 8):
ARRIFLEX 16SR incl. a full set of Zeiss primes
ARRIFLEX 16ST incl. 400ft mags
Beaulieu R16 incl. 200ft mags
I’ve also spent a lot of time in the lab, learning how to develop myself. As a member of Analogfilmwerke e.V., one of the many artist run developing labs across Europe, I have access to an Arribloc 400 developing machine. We are able to handle medium amounts of film stock in our lab, for shortfilms, music videos and artistic projects.
Through many workshops in cooperation with film schools and festivals, we spread the love and arouse the interest for analog film to the younger generation of students and filmmakers.
If you want to shoot your project on analog film, no matter if it’s a music video, a shortfilm or a commercial, I’ll be more than happy to do that for you.
Simply enquire and I can advise, calculate, prepare and shoot for you on 16mm or Super 8.
I also have a serious g.a.s.
Like many of my colleagues, I have the so called „gear acquisition syndrome“. Whenever there’s a new product on the market that’s related to camerawork, we consider buying it and often do so. We believe this new piece of equipment will help us creating even better pictures. Sometimes this is true, sometimes it is just crap that sits in our shelves.
Anyways… Thanks to this g.a.s., I meanwhile own a couple of cameras, a lot of lights and grip and all these little helpers, that make my pictures better… hmmm. What I wanted to say is: With all that self owned equipment I have the possibility to offer complete and competitive prices for many kinds of productions. Just ask.
